Interior--Boiler Room
Model by Eric Hanson. I have been working with getting the specular highlights and a more metallic/wet look. Also, I used photon mapping for the BG light, but it is too intense. I need to turn on shadows on more of the spotlights and I need to pump up the light fog back there too. I went crazy with the colors.
Exterior with HDRI

For our final, we have to do an exterior with this railroad and grain silo. I'm also including some of my reference material in later posts. My goal is to do a combination of HDR lighting and directional lighting. Also, I am using a combination of file textures and procedural textures. Most of what you see is procedural, which has been interesting to learn about.

First Denver HDR
While I was in Denver over the winter holiday, I thought it would be fun to try some hdr shooting with the nice camera we had in the house and a small christmas ornament. Denver has some very unique sunsets around Christmas time, so I tried to be aware of the magic hour so I could catch it. The Christmas ornament was really dirty but it seems to produce some nice results. This is exciting, because at this point I don't really know what I'm doing.

First Light
I thought I would compile my notes and excercises from the Lighting and Rendering class taught by Eric Hanson at USC. The purpose is to document my research in how I make my transition between practical lighting to cgi lighting. I hope to be able to learn the techniques in cg rendering to be able to work to create believability, enhance form, and create mood.
